The Flat Chair is a contemporary and striking chair which brings to life many lessons from chairs before it.

The chair takes learnings from the past and creates something entirely new; specifically drawing on predecessors such as Hans J. Wegner’s CH33, Børge Mogensen’s Søborg Chair and a hint of homegrown Featherston's Scape chairs.

The ‘flat-pack’ design uses a knockdown construction technique to allow users to both engage in the final stage of the crafting of the piece, while having the flexibility to take it where ever they go.

The chair priorities sustainable design via the use of clever detailing which allows the use of ‘waste’ wood throughout the piece. A material is a by-product of the timber manufacturing industry in Denmark, which is usually down-cycled as fuel for furnaces. Here, it is allowed a new use due to the timber profiles used (in both thickness and length) hence capturing the carbon and diverting a precious recourse from waste.

As well as serving a practical and important purpose, the details in the piece are refined and beautiful. These moments are what both link the piece to the design language of the past and distinguish it as something entirely of its own time.
